Internet Archive Wesbite Redesign, 2024
If you take a trip to the current, 2024, website for Internet Archive, you will quickly find out it is completely inefficient and drives the user away. As a student with little tangible experience with real clients, I find myself doing lots of these smaller projects with websites or packaging I use already. I frequently use this browser to find papers or literature not available at my library, so it was a simple choice for me to decide to redesign it. With so many bytes of information, the most notable design choice I aimed to make was a simpler navigation bar. In the original website, the navigation bar is full of well over 40 + options.
To use for body text, I chose a simple serif typeface as a juxtaposition of the primary one. Also, it is a nice nod to a physical library's elegance and literature. I chose a spaced-out sans-serif typeface for the primary text. This is because it seems to reflect a digital/pixel style, and also is clean and easy to read.
The colors used in my design are muted, and mainly black or white. I wanted to keep it as neutral as possible due to the extreme mass of content available. This is easier on the eye. Much like a museum or gallery, it chooses neutral wall colors.
